All is swell in New York City

I have nothing to post today, but wanted to check in and tell you that everything is swell in New York City.  We celebrated little Kol's first birthday today with a wonderful costume party.  So much fun for all big and small.  We have been alerted to the possibility of Hurricane Sandy hitting New York early this week.  We are due to fly home late Tuesday afternoon, and that plan may have to change.  I won't be disappointed to stay a little longer, but it looks like it won't be spent sightseeing in New York as planned.  I hope to get home to my craft room soon :) Stop back to hear the exciting new from Stampin' Up! on Monday. Owl be trimmin' up a Christmas card

Image
I have so much fun with this stamp set, and I always come up with some weird, crazy ideas.  I guess that's why I bought the set.  We used the Owl Occasions stamp set for our Christmas Stack-A-Stack last weekend, and everyone thought it was pretty cute, and so do I.  So, this time owl is hanging up his stocking.  He's so cute :) I used Raspberry Ripple and Gumball Green for this card, and the printed sock border is from Snow Festival DSP.  The Happy Christmas greeting is from my new More Merry Messages, that has wonderful Christmas messages.  I used one inside the card with a couple of stockings hung there, too. This week the challenge at SU- Only Challenge   is to use ANIMALS, and then I saw the Holiday Creature Feature at the Rockin' Challenge at Jingle Belles is to use a LIVING CREATURE, I knew just what to do.  This is the only creature I could think of, but who needs another one when owl is so fun.  Both of these challenge blogs always have such fun ideas

Peaceful Evergreen

Image
I had to play with another new stamp set that I got this week called Evergreen.  I was so excited to get this sweet little Christmas set that has Silent Night in the shape of a tree, that I stamped over the image of the solid tree.  Inside the card I used another image that gives the outline of the tree.  It also has a beautiful sentiment for inside the card.  This will be one of the cards that we use at our Christmas Stamp-a-stack class II in November.  I'm sure that my friends will love it.  The card is quite easy to make, too.  The tree was stamped with Lucky Limeade, which I stamped off once to give a softer image. Then the Silent Night was stamped over it with Early Espresso.  I cut it out with my Labels Framelits, and sponged the edges with Early Espresso.  The salutation came from the More Merry Messages.  The paper used on this card came from Candlelight Christmas DSP.  The Vanilla card was embossed with the Snowflake EF.  I added a button and bow, and a littl

The Glitz and Glamour

I wanted to share a card today that I made the night before I went to New York.  I had gotten a box of new supplies from Stampin' Up!, and I was dying to do a little playing.  I got new embossing powder!!  I have not embossed in about a year, because my heat gun had died, but I replaced that a couple months ago.  Then, I realized that all my metallic embossing powder was so old it actually tarnished!!  So, that left me with black or white, or clear embossing powder.  That's no fun.  So, I got new gold and silver embossing powder, new glitter, champagne glitter paper, and beautiful antique brads.  I am ready to do some glitzy stamping :) This is the first time I used my new Ornament Keepsakes for a card.  I have been making some 3D ornaments for my craft sale, but had not stamped a card yet, so starting with embossing was fun.  It's been a while since I embossed, and have not had much success, so I did a bunch of experimenting before the card came together.  I wanted

A booootiful birthday card

Image
I am so excited!!  Wednesday I leave for New York City, Brooklyn actually, for my grandson, Kol's first birthday.  Saturday he is having a big costume party to celebrate his birthday.  My hope is that we don't all scare him at his party.  I have been making some favors to take along for the party, and some decorations, and finally I made a birthday card.  This will probably not be the first, last, and only Halloween type birthday card that I make for him.  His birthday is the 28th, so I have a feeling that it will be a trend to celebrate with a Halloween theme.  It sound like a lot of fun to me, since my birthday is the middle of May.  I used the Googly Ghouls stamp set again, because I used it for a bunch of other party favors, so I am sticking with the theme.  I tried to make it kind of light and whimsical, too.  I think it's pretty appropriate for a baby's first birthday. I am going to enter it in a couple of challenges today, too.  First, the layout is from Try

I'm baaaacck! ........with a Halloween challenge

I haven't had time for blogging lately, but I sure have been busy in the craft room. I have been preparing things for Halloween, and craft sales, and card classes, and swaps.  I have been buuuusssy! I thought I would share with you the cute little Halloween candy dish I made for a special little granddaughter.  My little granddaughter doesn't get to go Trick or Treating, so I always try to make something special for her.  She saw the little dishes I made for the craft sales a few weeks ago, so I made a special one for her.  After I had made the dish up, I realized that it was in the colors for a challenge at Colour Q #159 this week, so I jazzed it up a little bit more and added a little more color.  The Pink Elephant Challenge  #171 is looking for HALLOWEEN, so I'll show it to them, too.  I have show this little folded dish before, and I hate to repeat my projects, but this is one of my favorite, fast and fabulous projects, so you can count on seeing it again.  I had a

Cute witch for a challenge

Image
I thought I'd make another Halloween card today, but once again make something cute instead of scary.  I guess I had nice witches on my mind.  I got a note from my son and daughter-in-law regarding my grandson's 1st birthday Halloween party, telling folks to come in costume, but not too scary, because there would be a lot of young children and babies.  Hmmm?  Didn't I say that?  I'm glad they took my message to heart.  So, today's card using Googly Ghouls again was made for a couple challenges.  First, the layout came from Sketch Frenzy Friday , and the colors from Dynamic Duos to use Tangerine Tango and Old Olive, and also Pink Paper Bakery for making HALLOWEEN cards.  I used some retired Autumn Spice DSP for the background, and the orange stripe is from Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP.  I used a little accordion folded paper to make the bats pop out, which turned out really fun.  I know a little girl who will love this card for Halloween, and hope you like i

Lovely as a Late Fall Tree

Image
I look out my windows, and the trees are all bare.  What a difference a week makes.  Last week I was enjoying the warm breeze coming in the window, and today I am sitting with long sleeves, an insulated vest on, and thinking about grabbing my afghan.  Oh, what a difference! So, today I was wondering what to make during my quiet moments in the craft room (not really, I had grandbaby in the swing with a cup full of snacks and the music box playing for about 7 minutes in the craft room, and came back later after she went home).  I reached for my Lovely as a Tree stamp set, and proceeded to create.  I had some paper on the table from yesterday that I wanted to use, and it was because it reminded me of the Challenge #138 at Just Add Ink to use Basic Gray, Summer Starfruit, and Whisper White.  Loved it!!  And, I used this layout the other day, but I realized that it did not meet the qualifications, so today I took another try at the Challenge #221 at Creating with Connie and Mary.    I
