Valentine for Vikings Fan

Image
I want to share one morethat I made, that was a little out of the ordinary, because of the colors I used.  My daughter and her husband are both big Minnesota Vikings fans, so I chose to use purple and gold for the valentine I made for them.  I kind of whipped this one up at the last minute before we went and met them for dinner.  I watch their baby 4 days a week, and we (meaning my husband) go up and pick up the baby at my daughters work every morning.  They live about an hours drive from our home, and work about 20 miles north of us.  We pick up baby saving them about an extra 45 minutes in the morning they would have to add on if they brought her to our house for drop off every day.  Did I say that this is also at 6:00am four days a week?  My daughter does drive down after work to pick up the baby, which means a 1 1/2 hour drive each night home from work.  Once in a while we drive up to the town near her work and have dinner at a Chinese b...

Over the top Valentine

Image
Isn't it funny how sometimes you have a great vision, but when you actually come to making the card, it just does not live up to the expectations?  This is one of those cards.  I don't think I have ever assembled and disassembled a card so many times.  It started out with the red flocked paper that I had left from Christmas from Candlelight Christmas DSP, and I saw used on some Valentine cards.  I wanted to frame it up with some Glimmer paper and really make it elegant.  I tried backing it with white, no ivory that was embossed.  No?  How about pink?  Embossed?  No, too gaudy.  Just when I thought I would leave it red, I had to walk away from it.  Came back the next day and started playing with it again.  Just was not speaking to me, so I decided to retire it.  But, today I decided that I would make it into a card for my dear hubby.  (He don't care, he'll take anything I make).  I decided today to take a ch...

A Sweet Challenge to Scrapbook

Image
SCRAPBOOK CLUB PROJECT This is the project that I made for our scrapbook class for February.  I used to scrapbook a couple times a month, and always planned all day scrapbook events with friends.  This is the first time I have done a page in almost a year, but I am turning over a new leaf.  Or, should I say that I am offering a new class?  That was the catalyst that got me back to creating scrapbook pages.  I can't wait to get started again.    For quite a  while I was in a scrapbook club at my friend, Kay's, and that was the only pages I got made for a couple of years.  Now, let's see what this year brings.  My friend, Debby and I have committed to do our scrapbooks, whether somebody joins us or not.  We hope to stir up more interest from our old pals, and get some new friends excited about scrap booking too.  I think the biggest shame is that many people have all of their photos on their computers, and never ...

Shabby Sweet Valentine

Image
I don't usually choose to do a shabby chic kind of card, but when it comes to the new spring catalog, it's got so much shabby chic type products, that I was just bound to be drawn to it.  I've always loved doilies and lace, and I could not wait to start playing with all the fun new embellishments.  The card started with some paper from More Amoire DSP.  I wanted to put a doily on the front and I just did not think it looked right, so I tried a little dark sponging on the paper so that it would show through the doily more, and it really did not work, thus the little dark spots (that showed up much more in the photo than when I looked at the card).  I decided to just use a part of the doily on the left, and to add my hearts from Hearts a Flutter stamp set.  The sentiment comes from the free stamp set, Vintage Verses available during SaleABration. The buttons came from SAB Sycamore Street ribbon and button  embellishment pa...

CAS(E) This Sketch and Inspired by Challenge

Image
When it comes to making cards, clean and simple is not my usual way.  I can't say that I don't keep it simple, I just like to add lots of color.  So, this card was my attempt at keeping it simple.  I used a sketch from CAS(E) this sketch! challenge , (Ooopps!  I missed the deadline, and did not get to submit my card) and for the colors I went to a new blog I found called Inspired By ....Challenge #58 .  This photo was the inspiration this week, and I immediately thought of this polka dot paper from Summer Smooches DSP for my take on the inspiration.  I used the stamps from Hearts A Flutter done in Midnight Muse on Daffodil Yellow and backed them with Not Quite Navy.  It may be too bold for a clean and simple card, but this is my take on it for today.  I hope they like it, and you do to.  Have a simply wonderful day, and stop back again soon. Just Because I love making cards

Image
I made this card for our demonstrator's swap earlier this month, but I changed it up a little adding the sentiment from a new stamp set called Vintage Verses, which is available from the SaleABration promotion.  This is just one of the many stamp sets, as well as paper and accessories that are available.  During the sale you get one free item for every $50 spent.  Check out the brochure on my sidebar, as well as the new Spring Catalog, and let me know if you would like to place an order.  I also used the Hearts A Flutter framelits to punch the little banners used on the card.  The paper is More Amoire DSP, and both are available in the new spring catalog. Then I embossed the Baha Breeze panel with the Fancy Fan EF.  I love playing along with the challenges, so for this card think I will show it off over at Just Add Ink Challenge where they are promoting the use of the Big Shot this week with a wonderful blog hop.  I got so much inspiration from...

Hearts a Flutter for a challenge

Image
I feel like a schoolgirl making valentines for my friends.  I just love the Hearts a Flutter stamp set and the matching Framelits from the new Stampin' Up! Spring catalog.  I tried a little of the chalkboard technique that is so popular these days.  I'd forgotten that I had white ink, it's been so long since I've used it, and I was tickled that I could get a bold enough image for the card I wanted to do.  On the outside I stamped an assortment of hearts on the black, and inside I also used messages from my new stamp set Friendly Phrases.  The phrases kind of reminded me of the silly phrases that were on dime store Valentines we used to get.  I stamped the flags in Basic Black and Real Red, and punched them so I could add bakers twine to string them up.  I attached the twine with a couple black brads.  I embossed the red card stock with my striped embossing folder, which reminded me of of an old schoolhouse.   This card was p...

I'm back, with a challenge

Image
I am baaaaccckkkk!  With a valentine, my first of the season.  And, I am ready for a challenge.  I have had some of my fun new toys from Stampin' Up! for a couple weeks now, but I have been too run down from the flu to even think of stamping.  Yesterday, I finally took down the Christmas tree, and today I got almost all the decorations packed away.  Then I headed to the craft room, where I needed to do some heavy cleaning so that I could find a surface to work on.  I had managed to get the room cleaned up before Christmas, but so many things got piled on the table, for lack of places to put them away.  I have not done a lick of stamping since my last post in December, when I finished the craft sales.  So, I packed away the Christmas stamps today, and sorted out the paper, and packed it away.  I put away the paper and stamps from the Fall & Winter catalog, and made room for the new goodies.  Yeah!!  I am ready to stam...
