All is swell in New York City

I have nothing to post today, but wanted to check in and tell you that everything is swell in New York City.  We celebrated little Kol's first birthday today with a wonderful costume party.  So much fun for all big and small.
We have been alerted to the possibility of Hurricane Sandy hitting New York early this week.  We are due to fly home late Tuesday afternoon, and that plan may have to change.  I won't be disappointed to stay a little longer, but it looks like it won't be spent sightseeing in New York as planned.
I hope to get home to my craft room soon :)

Stop back to hear the exciting new from Stampin' Up! on Monday.

Owl be trimmin' up a Christmas card

I have so much fun with this stamp set, and I always come up with some weird, crazy ideas.  I guess that's why I bought the set.  We used the Owl Occasions stamp set for our Christmas Stack-A-Stack last weekend, and everyone thought it was pretty cute, and so do I.  So, this time owl is hanging up his stocking.  He's so cute :)
I used Raspberry Ripple and Gumball Green for this card, and the printed sock border is from Snow Festival DSP.  The Happy Christmas greeting is from my new More Merry Messages, that has wonderful Christmas messages.  I used one inside the card with a couple of stockings hung there, too.
This week the challenge at SU- Only Challenge  is to use ANIMALS, and then I saw the Holiday Creature Feature at the
Rockin' Challenge at Jingle Belles is to use a LIVING CREATURE, I knew just what to do.  This is the only creature I could think of, but who needs another one when owl is so fun.  Both of these challenge blogs always have such fun ideas.  I love them!
I found a great layout that was just what I needed for the idea that I had.  However, when I went back to my file to see who's challenge it was I realized that it had no identifying marks.  The only thing I knew was it was number 201 and I had put the final date that submissions were due was October 31.  Hmmm?  That was a stumper!
I have always saved the sketches and stuff in a picture file, and as I save the picture I also add the final date that submissions have to be linked.  Some sketches have their name or initials on the sketch, but there are a couple that do not, so I am usually careful to add that information in my photo identification box.  This one I missed, which is too bad, for them and for me, because I cannot find their blog, and so I can't play with them today.  It bugged me so much, I went through my entire list of challenge blogs, and opened each one to look, and double check, to see if this could be their sketch.  I never found it, and I really looked thoroughly.  So, if anybody out their recognizes this sketch, let me know where it came from.  It would really just give me peace of mind.  It really drove me crazy!!
Well, I am in Brooklyn, NY for 6 days of family fun.  Today we are celebrating my grandson's first birthday with the Halloween costume party.  We are going to raise a ruckus, and have a good time :)
I hope to get some quiet time to blog for you, too.  So, come back and check in again, soon.  I'll share pictures, too.

Peaceful Evergreen

I had to play with another new stamp set that I got this week called Evergreen.  I was so excited to get this sweet little Christmas set that has Silent Night in the shape of a tree, that I stamped over the image of the solid tree.  Inside the card I used another image that gives the outline of the tree.  It also has a beautiful sentiment for inside the card.  This will be one of the cards that we use at our Christmas Stamp-a-stack class II in November.  I'm sure that my friends will love it.  The card is quite easy to make, too.
The tree was stamped with Lucky Limeade, which I stamped off once to give a softer image. Then the Silent Night was stamped over it with Early Espresso.  I cut it out with my Labels Framelits, and sponged the edges with Early Espresso.  The salutation came from the More Merry Messages.  The paper used on this card came from Candlelight Christmas DSP.  The Vanilla card was embossed with the Snowflake EF.  I added a button and bow, and a little gold embossed star to complete the card.
I am going to play along with a couple of challenges for this card.  I used the layout from Simply Stampin' Challenge, and the colors are from Lucky Limeade and Early Espresso from the Pink Paper Bakery Card Cafe week 13's color combination, and the Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge #162  asked that we make a card that represents PEACE or CALM to us.  This card was inspired by my image of peace, found in the woods, and that is represented by the song Silent Night.
My hope is that you have a peaceful weekend, and enjoy some time by crafting.  I, on the other hand, am about to celebrate my grandson's first birthday with a Halloween costume party on Saturday.  There will not be any peace and calm there.  It should be wild :)
Blogging for you from NYC, and having a great time.

The Glitz and Glamour

I wanted to share a card today that I made the night before I went to New York.  I had gotten a box of new supplies from Stampin' Up!, and I was dying to do a little playing.  I got new embossing powder!!  I have not embossed in about a year, because my heat gun had died, but I replaced that a couple months ago.  Then, I realized that all my metallic embossing powder was so old it actually tarnished!!  So, that left me with black or white, or clear embossing powder.  That's no fun.
So, I got new gold and silver embossing powder, new glitter, champagne glitter paper, and beautiful antique brads.  I am ready to do some glitzy stamping :)
This is the first time I used my new Ornament Keepsakes for a card.  I have been making some 3D ornaments for my craft sale, but had not stamped a card yet, so starting with embossing was fun.  It's been a while since I embossed, and have not had much success, so I did a bunch of experimenting before the card came together.  I wanted to stamp the gold embossing on Cherry Cobbler cardstock, but my first ornament was not very good, because the embossing powder did not seem to stick.  I had used Top Boss embossing ink, and it's been along time unused, so I reinked it, and tried again, without much success.  So, I switched to Versamark pad, and same thing.  Hmm?  I decided that maybe the color just was not right, like the Cherry Cobbler being dark makes the gold come out dark, too.  I switched to Very Vanilla Cardstock, and had success immediately.  Tried both kinds of ink with good results from both.  I'll have to do a little research later, but for now, I am very pleased with the way the ornament turned out.
For this card, I embossed the background with stripes.  I used paper from Candlelight Christmas Specialty DSP, and Cherry Cobbler seam binding to make that triple bow.  I backed the ornament with the Champagne Glitter paper, and added a few rhinestones that were colored red with a permanent marker.  The greetings inside and out come from More Merry Messages.  This card is so stunning the photo does not do it justice.
Laura and Olivia
Hopefully my photos will improve with my new camera that my daughter, Laura bought for me.  She told me that my photos on my blog were terrible, fuzzy, and off colored.  And, that I needed a new camera before I head to New York to see my grandson, because last year I came home very disappointed in the poor pictures I took.  It was time for a new camera.  Do I have a sweet daughter, or what??  Now I just need a light box (maybe for Christmas).
This beautiful card will be submitted for a couple challenges at Friday Mashup #81 where the challenge was to use an ORNAMENT and/or SPARKLE, and I think I did that.  I used the lovely layout from Create with Connie and Mary's Card Challenge #223, which was such a fun layout I will surely use often.  The Christmas Card Challenge #47 was to use BOWS, so I made a triple, super-duper one.
Hope you enjoyed my card today.
I am off to see the glitz and glamour of Manhattan tomrrow.  We are going to see the Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday.  Yeah!!  That should be fun!  The famous Carnegie Deli is close to the theatre, so I told my husband I want to eat there also.  Then, who knows where we will head next. We are off to explore the city on our own for the day.

A booootiful birthday card

I am so excited!!  Wednesday I leave for New York City, Brooklyn actually, for my grandson, Kol's first birthday.  Saturday he is having a big costume party to celebrate his birthday.  My hope is that we don't all scare him at his party.  I have been making some favors to take along for the party, and some decorations, and finally I made a birthday card.  This will probably not be the first, last, and only Halloween type birthday card that I make for him.  His birthday is the 28th, so I have a feeling that it will be a trend to celebrate with a Halloween theme.  It sound like a lot of fun to me, since my birthday is the middle of May.
I used the Googly Ghouls stamp set again, because I used it for a bunch of other party favors, so I am sticking with the theme.  I tried to make it kind of light and whimsical, too.  I think it's pretty appropriate for a baby's first birthday.
I am going to enter it in a couple of challenges today, too.  First, the layout is from Try Stampin' On Tuesday's Challenge #88. Then at Just Add Ink they requested that we Just Add Chevrons, so I put on some orange ones.  The colors, Pumpkin Pie and Basic Black are the challenge at Dynamic Duos#25.  And, over at The Paper Players CAS Challenge #118, they asked that I use a Frame, so I put one around the mummy and another one around the greeting.
Inside I added a couple more mummys, some more chevrons, and Celebrate from a retired set.  It's sooo cute!
I think that I put a lot of work into the card, and it was not much of a challenge when I had all these great ideas.
I hope to get another blog out before I leave tomorrow, so stop on by and see what I've done.

I'm baaaacck! ........with a Halloween challenge

I haven't had time for blogging lately, but I sure have been busy in the craft room. I have been preparing things for Halloween, and craft sales, and card classes, and swaps.  I have been buuuusssy!
I thought I would share with you the cute little Halloween candy dish I made for a special little granddaughter.  My little granddaughter doesn't get to go Trick or Treating, so I always try to make something special for her.  She saw the little dishes I made for the craft sales a few weeks ago, so I made a special one for her.  After I had made the dish up, I realized that it was in the colors for a challenge at Colour Q #159 this week, so I jazzed it up a little bit more and added a little more color.  The Pink Elephant Challenge #171 is looking for HALLOWEEN, so I'll show it to them, too.
I have show this little folded dish before, and I hate to repeat my projects, but this is one of my favorite, fast and fabulous projects, so you can count on seeing it again.
I had a hard time photographing it to really get the full effect.  I used the Googly Ghouls stamps for this project.  Inside, I stamped the little mummy and Boooo in the bottom, and used a cute little pumpkin printed paper inside, and that's where the other orange comes into the project.
Now, I hope to pick up some equally special treats to put inside for Emily.

Come back again tomorrow, and I'll show you some more that I've been working on.

Cute witch for a challenge

I thought I'd make another Halloween card today, but once again make something cute instead of scary.  I guess I had nice witches on my mind.  I got a note from my son and daughter-in-law regarding my grandson's 1st birthday Halloween party, telling folks to come in costume, but not too scary, because there would be a lot of young children and babies.  Hmmm?  Didn't I say that?  I'm glad they took my message to heart.
So, today's card using Googly Ghouls again was made for a couple challenges.  First, the layout came from Sketch Frenzy Friday, and the colors from Dynamic Duos to use Tangerine Tango and Old Olive, and also Pink Paper Bakery for making HALLOWEEN cards.
I used some retired Autumn Spice DSP for the background, and the orange stripe is from Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP.  I used a little accordion folded paper to make the bats pop out, which turned out really fun.  I know a little girl who will love this card for Halloween, and hope you like it, too.

Lovely as a Late Fall Tree

I look out my windows, and the trees are all bare.  What a difference a week makes.  Last week I was enjoying the warm breeze coming in the window, and today I am sitting with long sleeves, an insulated vest on, and thinking about grabbing my afghan.  Oh, what a difference!
So, today I was wondering what to make during my quiet moments in the craft room (not really, I had grandbaby in the swing with a cup full of snacks and the music box playing for about 7 minutes in the craft room, and came back later after she went home).  I reached for my Lovely as a Tree stamp set, and proceeded to create.  I had some paper on the table from yesterday that I wanted to use, and it was because it reminded me of the Challenge #138 at Just Add Ink to use Basic Gray, Summer Starfruit, and Whisper White.  Loved it!!  And, I used this layout the other day, but I realized that it did not meet the qualifications, so today I took another try at the Challenge #221 at Creating with Connie and Mary.   I just love the little banners hanging down.
So my card was really simple to make.  The hardest part was deciding where I wanted to place my salutaion that comes from Trust God stamp set.  I decided to do something different, and just kind of layer it in the corner of the framed image, and I thought it turned out pretty cool.
Hope you enjoy my crisp fall card, and stop by my blog again soon.
